emDEX http://www.emdex.ca/  "a FrameMaker™ Plug-In, adding a real-time visual means of watching your index grow right before your eyes to help you track and modify your index entries on the fly. No more need to tag-and-generate again and again." Demo available for download.

HTML Indexer http://www.html-indexer.com/ for Windows. Software for indexing HTML files on web sites.  Demo available for download.

Idxtools http://idxtools.sourceforge.net/   A suite of tools to assist in the productions of indexes, primarily aimed at indexers working from existing material such as printed proofs. The central concept behind Idxtools is the file format used for the indexes. All the programs understand this format.

Kindex  http://www.apg.u-net.com/kindex.htm  Shareware. "A program to index paginated hard copy. Especially useful to academic authors indexing their own books. Up to 30,000 entries; up to 2999 pages in each of 10 vols. Accords with BS1749 & BS 53700 Requirements: Dos 4.1 up (KINDEX is a DOS program, but will run under WINDOWS)"

Xindy http://www.iti.informatik.tu-darmstadt.de/xindy/  and moving to  http://sourceforge.net/projects/xindy/ An index processor that can be used to generate book-like indexes for arbitrary document-preparation systems. This term includes systems such as TeX and LaTeX, the roff-family, and SGML/XML-based systems (e.g., HTML).
